Radio News and its role in 21st Century radio is constantly evolving. To succeed in this demanding field, it’s important to not only understand what makes great news but also how it needs to be written and presented for a 21st Century audience.

Description

In this two day course you will be shown how to write and present captivating Radio News, which in its own way can also be entertaining.

With a focus on contemporary radio presentation, you will be taken through a series of news writing exercises designed to help you target the Radio Listener by maximizing every word of your News Copy.

You will be shown different news reading styles and given exercises designed to help you develop your Radio News “voice”.

You will also be shown valuable techniques that will assist you in the areas of field reporting, interviewing for radio and how to find Radio News.

Aim

To give you the skills required to be able to write and read Radio News and prepare you for a role in radio.

Learning Outcomes

  1. How to write news for commercial radio formats.
  2. How to make news judgments for various radio formats.
  3. How to use your voice when reading the news.
  4. Understand how a radio newsroom works.
  5. Understand the needs and skills of a radio journalist.

Delivery

The course will contain a combination of theory and practical sessions, with the practical taking place in our professional recording studio.

Assessment

Critical appraisal and guidance will be given at each stage of the course.

Two day course run on a weekend schedule.

Numbers of participants

Classes are kept small on average 5-7 students. Enrol early to avoid disappointment.
