Assistant Music Director / Producer / Announcer NOVA100

Melbourne Radio School couldn’t have prepared me more thoroughly for my career in the radio industry. Their comprehensive course taught me all facets of the industry from copywriting to promotions, to producing and on air skills. The teachers had extensive skills and experience in the industry and were most helpful with radio contacts that in turn helped me obtain my first job as an on air presenter.

Now after 5 years in the industry and a variety of skills, I owe it all to my training with Melbourne
Radio School – if it wasn’t for them, I don’t think I would be where I am today"

Melbourne Radio School's Intro to Radio course was so much fun, and answered many questions I had about the radio industry. Our lecturer Simon Kirby was great, and ensured we gained the knowledge and skills needed to enter into a radio career. Heidi was always happy to help before during and after the course was completed, and organised my one week work placement at TR which confirmed how much I wanted to work in a radio station. Trent then made my demo and was unbelievably patient, and always had a smile on his face. I then had the confidence to start applying for jobs, and managed to get the first job I applied for as a Copywriter at 5RM in South Australia. I recommend this course to anyone at any stage of their life, who has an interest in working in radio. It gives you an insight into working in a radio station, the opportunity to make contacts in the ACE Radio Network, and the tools needed to get that dream job in radio, just like me.

Melbourne Radio School provides you with a broad understanding of the radio industry. After completing the Compact Intro to Radio course, it confirmed my interest in wanting a career in commercial radio. Doing this course and others created opportunities I thought were unattainable. After work placement at MIXX FM Colac, I felt ready to take on my first job in radio as the Mt Buller Radio and TV Snow Reporter for the 2009 winter season. The opportunity incorporates two positions; a Mt Buller Radio & Website Reporter and The Mt Buller Channel 7 Snow Reporter. The knowledge and industry experience shared by the teachers at MRS is invaluable. I’m excited about the career I have chosen and about the many prospects radio has to offer. I recommend the courses at MRS to anyone wanting a career in radio.

I completed the “Intro to Radio Course” at the Melbourne Radio School. The course gave me great exposure me to the technical elements (software, etc), written and also the presentation aspects of radio. I didn’t only learn valuable skills, but also enjoyed getting to know Simon and the group over the 10 week period. I decided to have a crack at finding some employment in the radio industry. Heidi was very helpful throughout the process. She was a good source of information when researching stations and kept in regular contact with job opportunities. Trent was very professional and helpful throughout the recording of my demo. He was very patient and meticulous and insured the end product was a good representation of my skills. A month after recording the demo I obtained an on air role at 100.9 ZZZ FM in Northern NSW. I am now luckily enough to live in Byron Bay, a place the rest of the world comes to holiday. This wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of the Melbourne Radio School. Whether you are looking to enter the radio industry, or are looking for a way to improve your confidence and oral presentation skills, I can certainly recommend the Introduction to Radio Course.

Last year I finally took the jump into the career I always wanted- Radio! The Introduction to Radio really opened my eyes to all the possibilities within the industry. The Melbourne Radio School was wonderfully helpful - Heidi was great from day one and Simon was entertaining, knowledgeable, realistic and reassuring! Two months after my “week placement” I had a job in radio doing exactly what I wanted to do- Creative and Announcing within the ACE Radio Network at Coast Fm Warrnambool (Their stuck with me now!)

Everyone in the Network has been totally supportive and made me feel really at home - honestly!

I am doing things such as panel operation (with an on-air shift from 1-4 daily), copywriting, voice over work- things that I never thought I would be capable of doing. The course gave me a really good theoretic base and the week placement topped that off with, an actual hands on perspective- which fueled my desire to get into the industry even more. I am very excited about all the opportunities that are now available to me and would recommend the course to anyone looking to get into the industry!

As a former student of the Melbourne Radio School I couldn’t of imagined that I would now be employed in the industry of my dreams. The ‘Intro to Radio Course’ was a great eye opener into the industry. Offering both a great theoretical and hands on component. I am currently employed by commercial radio station Nova 100.3 as a Casanova and panel operator

Without any previous experience in radio, I began the Intro to Radio Course. Within six months I'd done work experience at TRFM /Gold1242 in Gippsland, cut a demo with Trent and relocated to Traralgon for a career in radio.

There I had plenty of experience in production, copy writing, and on-air, with the drive-time slot Monday to Friday. There's so many opportunities available within the ACE Radio Network, and it's a great family to be a part of.

In 2008 I moved back to Melbourne and now wake up at "stupid o'clock" every morning to report on traffic from 1000 feet for the Today show on Channel 9 and for radio. I've been heard on Fox FM, Triple M, Gold, Mix, Vega, SEN, and 3MP.

Radio's a blast - you never know where you'll end up - and there's no better way to get started. Teachers with industry experience, the latest in studio equipment and loads of hands-on time are priceless resources and all on offer at Melbourne Radio School.

Training at the Melbourne Radio School helped me immensely to get where I am today. Only a few months after completing the course and recording my radio demo I landed a job in South Hedland with REDWAVE media. I host the Breakfast show between 6-10 on Spirit 1026am.

I couldn’t have asked for a greater group of teachers and mentors at MRS. Simon who is an excellent teacher, taught me what I needed to know with how the industry works. Trent who help produced by demo was very patient and helpful in making it happen – he won’t let you send anything out that isn’t 110%. Finally Heidi our co-ordinator was and is still very helpful with all the work she does, helping us find work and keeping us up to date with what is going on job is really fantastic.

The great thing about MRS – is even after you’ve finished your course they still care about what is happening in your career. I am very appreciative and forever grateful to all those who supported me and guided me through the course.

My dream job was to be in the radio industry, and after years of searching a way in, I found MRS and decided to give them ago, it has been without a doubt the best decision I have ever made. Not only did MRS give me the insight into how radio works, it also defines good radio and poor radio in an accurate and true representation, thusly readying myself for current expectation within the industry. I find myself now helping my current employer “get with the times” remarkable!

All due to the professional and precise teaching from Simon, who without a doubt, most successful graduates owe a great deal of gratitude too especially me. The work experience aspect to the Intro to Radio Course is indeed a major feature and bonus, and it gives you an invaluable insight to the industry. Furthermore the follow up and support from Heidi from helping in job applications, demos etc. is yet another great strength of MRS and again most graduates including me, would struggle on their own.

MRS’s Intro to Radio course with its flexible delivery, gave me the time to stay at work full time and pursue a dream, which now I can say ecstatically is fulfilled. Clearly my advice to anyone contemplating this course should have no hesitation, as this course is professional, up to date and most importantly heaps of fun.

Melbourne Radio School is more than just a place of theoretical learning. As a student you are exposed to up-to-date industry equipment and taught by people who impart more than basic technical knowledge. I left with a broad understanding of the radio industry and moved into a position as the drive announcer on Hype FM in Broken Hill. I regard attending Melbourne Radio School as an investment that yielded amazing results and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Thank you Heidi, Simon and MRS!

I’ve always had a love for Radio and desired to work in the industry but making it my profession seemed like a LONG shot.

I decided to give the Melbourne Radio School a try and it turned out to be the best thing I have ever done. The course gave me a great insight into the industry and provided me with some great contacts.

After completing the course I did a week’s work experience in Horsham and continued to do volunteer work there until I got a permanent job in Colac as a station all rounder. Nine months on I received a promotion as the Production Manager and Announcer in Horsham we’re I still am and enjoying it.

Without the Melbourne Radio School I’m sure this wouldn’t be possible!

I completed the Introduction to Radio Course at MRS. The course was a great hands on experience and because of Simon, Heidi and Trent’s hard work, I am now the Breakfast Host on station Hill FM. I am also doing helping out in Production.

I'd like to thank everyone at the Melbourne Radio School. I would highly recommend this course for anyone wanting to get into radio.

My name is Benny Jones and I was a student in the Intro to Radio Course. After completing the course I started some casual work at my local stations STAR FM and 3BO FM in Bendigo, doing various tasks such as panel operating, production, voice overs and a small shift between 5-6am on weekday mornings.

Recently I was given my very own show between 10-2 on 91.9 STAR FM Bendigo, which while being quite a daunting responsibility with a listening audience range of over 120,000 people, but has been a lot of fun.

A big thank you to Simon who took my course, Trent who helped with my demo, and yourself Heidi for all the fantastic work you guys put in giving us students the best possible grounding as we enter the world of radio. The 10 weeks I spent with you guys has helped in so many ways during the early stages of my on-air career!

All the best with the new studio's and equipment, which I’m sure will only improve what is an already very impressive learning resource at Melbourne Radio School.

I have always wanted to be employed in the radio industry. Melbourne Radio School helped me achieve my dream and I am very thankful for their invaluable assistance and continued support since completing the Intro Course.

I attended Melbourne Radio School and with their help I was successful, landing a position as Assistant Music/Program Director at 5TCBFM in South Australia.

6 weeks later I was promoted to Music/Program Director.

On Tuesdays I do a breakfast program, the “Brekky Brew Tanae and Drewz,” we speak to Sydney Star Footballer Martin Matter on each show. I also produce and deliver another on-air program "Home-Grown" as well as other programs and fill in when I am needed.

Thank you to Heidi and the staff at Melbourne Radio School because without them I would not be where I am today.

My training at the Melbourne Radio School has helped me advance into the radio career that I was looking for.

The course was entertaining and informative with an up to date teacher.

Working in the radio industry requires a person to multi-task and the extra courses that are made available to Melbourne Radio School students has shown me how to cope with being a News Director, On-air Announcer and Copywriter – all at once!

I would recommend the Melbourne Radio School to anyone thinking about moving into the industry.

"I completed the 10 week 'Introduction to Radio' Course at the Melbourne Radio School.

When I began the course I had never worked in radio or had any radio experience apart from the fact that I enjoyed listening to it. The course covered all aspects of the radio world - not just announcing and music, but also writing ads, the history of radio and also offered plenty of hands on experience in the studios at the school. The studio was also available outside of class times for the student's use.

Upon completion of the course the school offered much help and support in finding employment - I recorded a demo with Trent's help and Heidi helped with my resume and job applications. Even after I had found a job Heidi stayed in touch to check in on how I was going.

I got my first radio job as an Announcer/Copy Writer at 2GF in Grafton in February 2007 where I worked until August 2007 when an opportunity came up in the ACE Radio Network at 3WM in Horsham where I currently work as the Afternoon Announcer on MixxFm and as a Copy Writer.

This 10 week course completely changed the direction of my life and I would highly recommend it to anyone."

I did a short course at the Melbourne Radio School.

It was brilliant, I learnt everything I didn't know about the industry, especially in the news department and next gen. Since completing my course I did 1 weeks’ work experience at 3YB/ COAST FM in Warrnambool and then I completed my demo, with Trent. Literally the day after I applied for a job in Port Lincoln South Australia.

I commenced as a news reader and sports show host and have since been promoted to breakfast. Life is fantastic, but I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the Melbourne Radio School, so thanks for everything and giving me a start.

I’m living the dream now, and so can you.

I undertook the 10 week Introduction to Radio Course after having done some community radio. I learnt a wide range of skills and received a solid grounding in radio, but most of all I learnt that I really wanted to be a part of the industry. I began working at 3TRFM/Gold 1242 as a production assistant while completing the course, and after 2 months moved to Warrnambool as Production Manager. I’ve been in Warrnambool since and have progressed up through the Assistant PD role to my current role as Program Manager of Coast FM and 3YB. I also present breakfast on Coast FM! I love every minute of my job, love working for the Ace Radio Network, and highly recommend the Melbourne Radio School as an excellent introduction to the world of Commercial Radio.

MRS is affiliated with ACE Radio and when you undertake the radio course, you get to spend a week at any one of the seven ACE radio stations throughout Victoria and that’s how I landed my first job in radio.

Training at The Melbourne Radio School is a great first step into the radio world. They provide you with the skills you need for the job and you get that all important ..“foot in the door”. Go for it !

I completed the Melbourne Radio School Introduction to Radio Course and I was lucky enough to score a job with 3TRFM/Gold1242 Gippsland, pretty much straight away.

I began as a Copywriter, after about a year I began announcing Mid-dawns, then moved to nights and finally Brekky, which I have been doing for almost 2 years.

The Melbourne Radio School was a great introduction to some of the roles and requirements in a radio station. It was detailed enough to give me an insight into radio, allowing me to quickly work out whether radio was a suitable career for me. It was also a course that offered me direct access to employment through the Melbourne Radio School’s involvement with the Ace radio network. I would definitely recommend the Melbourne Radio school course for anyone interested in a career in radio. Good Luck!

I enrolled in the Melbourne Radio School when half way through the course I scored my first commercial radio gig in Warrnambool at Coast FM/ 3YB. Later Moved onto Breakfast in SA, then returned to The ACE Radio Network in 2005, doing Drive in Hamilton. Recently we moved the Drive time program (The Whole Hog With Deppeler) to Breakfast on Colac and Hamilton. I would like to thank the Melbourne Radio School for the great opportunity to be in radio and here I am.

I Completed the 10 Week Introduction to Radio Course at MRS after working in Community Radio and casually at a commercial station. It was great to learn about all aspects of radio using up-to-date technology that is in use at most stations across Australia. While completing the course I started working at 3YB/Coast FM as a Production Assistant and Announcer, I worked there for 9 months before moving up to 3HA/Mixx FM Hamilton where I became the host of ACE Radio’s State-wide night show “The Hot 30”. I spent two years doing that and then moved on to become Program And Production Manager of 3HA & Mixx FM. Working in Radio has got to be one of the most varied and fulfilling jobs you can ever have. Its great working for the ACE Radio Network, and the Introduction to Radio Course is a perfect way to start your career in Commercial Radio

I completed the Melbourne Radio School Intro to
Radio course in 2003 and found it the perfect
introduction to commercial radio. One of the best

Nathan
parts is that you get a week’s work experience at an ACE Radio station as part of the course, which was a great way to gain industry contacts, and also to see how a “real” radio station really works. Another great part of the course is that you’re using programs and technology that are actually currently used in radio stations, which gives you a great advantage when applying for jobs.

I’ve also completed 2 short courses with MRS in Voice-Overs and News, which I also found really useful. You’re being taught by people with extensive industry experience, which is invaluable. Doing these courses is a great way to decide which area you might specialise in, in radio.

After completing the course, I started at 3GG/Star FM in Warragul, as a weekend casual, doing on-air shifts and helping out around the station. This job led to a full time position at Star FM Dubbo as Promotions Coordinator. Since then, I’ve had on-air roles at Gem FM Inverell and 3CS/Mixx FM Colac, and am now on-air and also helping with production and copy at 3HA/Mixx FM Hamilton, an ACE Radio station. Doing the course made me realise I really wanted to be part of the ACE Radio network and I’m really happy to be part of it!

I recommend the Melbourne Radio School to anyone who wants to get into radio, the advice and experience given as part of the courses available are invaluable in getting into the industry!

WOW what a journey Radio can be! I got my first foot in the door as the ‘’dubbing girl’’ at MIXX FM/3CS in Colac from year 8 until year 10, which gave me a positive insight into radio!
After VCE and further studies in Event Management, I decided to continue my journey into the radio world at the Melbourne Radio School with Simon Kirby in 2006!
The 10 week course gave me a great foundation and overview of what radio really had to offer!
Teaching you theory and practical and yes… this means you take the seat in the studio chair opposite the mike where you proceed to show off your stuff in front of everyone!! It’s was a good laugh for a Monday night!
This just made me more eager and determined to get my first proper job in radio!
I got my first job as a Copy Writer in Warrnambool, and from there I have gone into Announcing (12 pm till 3pm every week day) and Promotions which is aired during the Breaky Show!
Now I am coming up to my second year here in Warrnambool at Coast FM/3YB and I am still learning and really enjoying it!
If you have a passion for radio – go for it!!!!

Having worked 'untrained' in the radio industry for a few years in various roles, I thought it was time to finally get some industry recognised teaching.

With Simon as our teacher for the Introduction to Commercial Radio, Melbourne Radio School taught and confirmed many things to me, both new and old.

The course was very informative, and I was impressed how they were teaching the current industry standards, with a view in to the future as well.

Since attending MRS, I've been employed further, accepting a job at a commercial station in Broken Hill as a Producer and Announcer.
