Intro to Radio Course & Voice Over Course for TV & Radio Commercials

Lecturer – Simon Kirby

Simon started in community radio at the age of 16 and set up local community radio station Mix FM in his local town at the age of 18. His first Commercial job was in production and announcing at EDGE FM / 3NE.

 

He then went onto work at Austereo (Fox FM & MMM) in production and programming as well as launching his voice over career, whilst also working as a part time lecturer at Edith Cowan University in Perth.

Simon then went onto work at AFTRS (Australian Film, Television & Radio School) in Sydney on a fulltime basis as a Radio Lecturer.
Simon was able to shape the careers of some of Australia’s’ best new on air and creative talent.

Simon now lectures on a fulltime basis at the Melbourne Radio School and guest lecturers at AFTRS in Sydney, continuing to provide Australia’s future radio stars with Australia’s’ best teaching guidance.

Simon is also a current Voice Over Artist and can be heard across the country on: Austereo (Fox & MMM) ACE Radio Network, NOVA and Power FM

Trent McCurdy

A former student of the Melbourne Radio School, Trent landed his first job at 3WM / Mixx FM Horsham in 1997.

In 2001 Trent co hosted 3TR FM’s highly successful “Nitemix Hot 30”. The 2002 survey revealed that 72% of people over the age of 10 listened to the program every weeknight.

In 2004, Trent won ‘Best Station Promotion’ at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards. Trent returned to the air waves in July 2005 as a special guest host on 3TR FM’s “Nitemix Hot 30”. During this time a survey was conducted and Trent outdid his last effort, enjoying a massive 85% share of audience.

In 2005 Trent won “Best Achievement in Production” at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards.

In March 2007, Trent began hosting “The Dirty 30” across Victoria on the 6FM stations within the ACE network. In 2007 Trent won “Best Networked Program (Non Metro) at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards.

Trent is the Melbourne Radio School’s Production Manager, as well as ACE Radio’s Group Imaging Producer and Assistant Music Director.

John Williams

John Williams formerly held the top radio news post in Australia as Group News Director for Austereo (Fox FM & Triple M).


After 19 years with Austereo and over 40 years in radio, his experience in radio news is unmatched.


As “The News Doctor” John has written regular articles about Radio News for the radio industry website, www.radioinfo.com.au and currently writes, trains and consults for the ACE Radio network across Victoria.

Ray Adams

Ray, has spent 10 years writing, voicing and producing radio ads in Regional Radio at 3HA / Mixx FM Hamilton, and 8 years writing copy in Metropolitan Radio at MIX, GOLD, MMM and Fox. That’s 18 years of writing radio ads that reach the right people and provide effective results for a variety of clients. In addition to national campaigns and radio awards, Ray has also conducted lectures and workshops for copywriters and sales reps throughout the Radio Industry.
