The Melbourne Radio School was established in 1984. Since then many, many students have gained employment and still are at regional and metropolitan radio stations throughout Australia and other parts of the world as Announcers, Voice Over Artists, Copywriters, News Readers, Sales Consultants, Promotions and Marketing personnel, Receptionists, Journalists, Music and Program Directors.

The Melbourne Radio School is now owned and operated as a division of ACE Radio Broadcasters, which makes it the only broadcast school in Australia directly connected to an active commercial radio network (which includes Gold 1242 / 3TR FM Traralgon, 3CS / Mixx FM Colac, 3SH / Mixx FM Swan Hill, 3WM / Mixx FM Horsham, 3HA / Mixx FM Hamilton, 2AY Albury and 3YB / Coast FM Warrnambool) with all of its up to date resources, expertise and personnel.

The Melbourne Radio School has just relocated to a brand new purpose built radio school. The new Melbourne Radio School has been designed and built from scratch. The Melbourne Radio School features a brand new radio studio, brand new production studio and brand new voice over booth.

In January 2005, the Melbourne Radio School upgraded its Radio Course, in conjunction with the Australian Film and Television School (AFTRS). Course participants of Intro to Radio receive an industry recognised AFTRS Certificate of Completion.

AFTRS provides advanced training for the Australian film, broadcast and digital media production industries nationally. www.aftrs.edu.au

Off the Bench

Off the Bench

He might be making enemies in Stawell but football journalist Craig Hutchison has given country football a much-needed voice with Off The Bench, the top-rating radio program he created and co-hosts with former Geelong star Liam Pickering.

Off The Bench is the only radio show dedicated to country football.

The hosts both got their starts in country football – Hutchy a player with Warragul and Pickering as a star in the making with Stawell – and are now giving back to a part of the sport that gave so much to them.

Their reason for starting the show was the need for a radio program made for all the football fans in Victoria not just those in metropolitan Melbourne.

Each week, as well as the lively football debate and tipping competition, Hutchy and Pickers interview stars from both the AFL and all the country competitions.

Other popular segments include Off The Record, where Pickering gives his critique about football journalism, and the Bush Legends series, when the boys chat to a legend of one of the local leagues.
